> ## Documentation Index > Fetch the complete documentation index at: https://ftp.legacydoc.xyz/llms.txt > Use this file to discover all available pages before exploring further. # 1.6 - Phase 1 Phase 1 consists of a formal ride-along period in which the cadet shows an FTP Staff member for a minimum of 4 (four) hours. During this phase, the cadet shall remain on duty at all times and will be assigned to activities within the prison and/or inmate transports The primary purpose of Phase 1 is to introduce the cadet to DOC operations, procedures and expectations. Cadets are expected to observe how DOC officers conduct themselves during routine duties and critical situations, as well as learn what actions should and should not be taken in various scenarios. During the ride-along, FTP staff shall actively engage the cadet by explaining procedures, answering questions, and quizzing the cadet on observed actions and DOC policies. FTP Staff should assess the cadet’s situational awareness, understanding of basic operations, and ability to retain information. Phase 1 is observational in nature, and cadets shall not act as the primary officer during this phase.
